About Phillips Foods
Corporate Responsibility
Founding member of NFI Crab Council
At the annual International Boston Seafood Show in March 2009, Phillips arranged a meeting for companies selling blue swimming crab in the U.S. that resulted in the formation of a coalition determined to ensure the sustainability of global crab fisheries.
The Council decided in September 2009 to organize its activities under the National Fisheries Institute umbrella, and has become the NFI Crab Council. The Crab Council provides a common voice for U.S. companies and suppliers committed to supporting and encouraging producers and exporters worldwide to advance sustainability efforts for the swimming crab.
In addition to this effort in the US, Phillips has initiated the formation of The Blue Swimming Crab Producers Association (APRI) in Indonesia and the Philippine Association of Crab Processors, Inc. (PACPI) in the Philippines. These associations are focused on the sustainability of the crab fisheries. APRI and PACPI are working to coordinate industry, government, NGO and university research programs and management initiatives for the blue swimming crab resource.
